A legacy in a Tea Cup, How I Came To Read Tea Leaves
I didn’t exactly choose tea leaf reading.
It chose me—through a mystery only Spirit could orchestrate.
Some stories are too magical to explain—only felt in the heart.
Mine begins with a teacup.
Years after my grandmother passed and her estate had been settled, her tea set vanished. Gone. Forgotten. Until one day, it reappeared—tucked inside a treasure chest my cousin had, where once had been an ornament of his mom no gone was my grandmothers tea set. No one knew how it got there. But there it was, waiting. And somehow, I sensed it was meant for me.
that weekend my cousin made the trip with the long lost tea set and I found myself being guided by my grandmother. That weekend, something shifted. I found myself being gently guided by my grandmother—learning to read the tea leaves just as she and the women before her had done. It came naturally. I didn’t know how I was understanding what I saw in the cup, only that I was.
In that moment, something deeper awakened. I began to recognize my ancestral lineage—not just as a story, but as a living thread woven through me. I understood why I had been given these gifts, and why they were returning now. It wasn’t random. It was remembrance.
As it turns out, both my grandmother and great-grandmother read tea leaves. And when I was younger, I had intuitive experiences I didn’t fully understand—visions, insights, and a sense of knowing that often proved true. At the time, I didn’t know what to do with it, so I stepped away from it.
In my 30s, I found myself drawn back into the spiritual world—this time through crystals and oracle cards. After my grandfather passed, I learned he had a love for crystals too and even made jewelry with them. That connection helped me realize my intuitive interests weren’t random—they were part of my lineage.
Today, I read tea leaves using my own set and on special occasions, I will bring grandmas set out. It’s become a meaningful part of my practice. And yes, I still joke with her before a reading: “Alright Grandma, time for us to go be social and deliver some messages.”
